A teapoy is a small pedestal table used for tea service comprised of a box attached to a tripod base. The two lidded boxes inside were for fresh tea leaves and the empty bin between for used tea leaves. In the late 19th century, the teapoy was a very expensive luxury item, being considered a sign of prestige to have a piece of furniture solely for the purpose of storing and displaying tea. This teapoy is made out of papier-mache in the black lacquer style of Asia with beautiful hand painting on the interior and exterior body of the piece.
